Our Story

Creating handmade purses from recycled/scrap leathers.

I moved to New York City 5 years ago to attend college at Parsons School of Design. I graduated with my BBA in Strategic Design and Management which involved fashion business with design strategies. Along the way, I took as many random classes as I could.

At Parsons, I took textiles, draping, sewing, printmaking, knitting, fashion drawing, footwear design, and construction. Footwear construction caught me off guard and I quickly fell in love. After graduating my full intention was to go into footwear design. I had a job set up and I was excited…..insert COVID and that job never happened.

In the midst of disappointment, boredom, and borderline insanity I had to do something. I saw all my leftover leather from shoemaking and decided to put it to use.

I took the scraps I had and made my first purse. I designed it purely based on how large the pieces of leather were that I had. Just like that, the Desnouettes Bag was born.

Sometimes we don’t end up where we thought we would but in the end, it all works out for the best. I found a passion out of literal scraps.

MG Leathers is my heart and I’ve never been more excited to create something that will hopefully bring warmth and heart into this world.

What do we believe in?

At MG Leathers we believe that the world needs more than just another product in the market. After spending so much time in the fashion world it became clear that sustainability and caring about the earth isn’t a priority.

After working in footwear and seeing how much waste was produced with leftover leather we knew there had to be a use for it. This is why all products made by MG Leathers are created with either recycled or scrap leather! Scrap Leather is easily found at leather stores for an extremely discounted price. These are pieces that are weird shapes, too small, or have blemishes. By committing to using only scrap leather it allows for each bag to be unique.

Each bag is handmade and produced in Brooklyn, NY. We strive for quality in our bags but also to make a difference. There is too much hurt in this world and country to simply ignore. Let’s work together and create a change, no matter how small.
